Diane Samuels' (author of award-winning Kindertransport) new work receives its world premiere at the Arcola Theatre in 2025.
AS LONG AS WE ARE BREATHING is a mixed media, multi-sensory evocation of the life story of Miriam Freedman.
Ben Caplan directs this powerful play, which hones in on Miriam’s childhood experiences living in danger and hiding with her family in Slovakia during the Holocaust before, later in adulthood, following her journey to London where she discovered meditation and yoga which enabled her to begin to process and face the depths of her grief and trauma.
Audio and video footage is accompanied by live music, physical theatre, and personal testimony that pieces together a surprising intimate, and moving encounter with Miriam’s older and younger self. Audiences are invited to delve within to contemplate Miriam’s loss and search for peace, healing, and forgiveness in a shared theatrical experience.
